Dear families,
We did so much writing this week! We are almost finished writing nonfiction reports about community buildings (the same ones we made in the block area with Roberta).
Today, Wednesday, December 23 is the last day of school before winter break.
Happy holidays!
Goodbye! Have a nice day.
love,

See what we're up to this week!
(Posted by the students)
Dear families,
We had fun at the Festival of Lights this week! We read our "Dear Winter" letters to the whole school. It was Ethan's birthday on the same day as the Festival of Lights. There were a lot of birthdays this month. Noelle's birthday is today, Friday December 18th.
Today was Family Friday. We had fun with our parents playing math games. Family Fridays are special days when some parents visit us in the mornings.
This week we finished a fun read aloud, Stuart's Cape, by Sara Pennypacker. Soon we will read another book by the same author called Stuart Goes to School.
We had fun at Social Studies, observing maps about other countries and states. We had a lot of fun on Google Maps on the SMART board!
We have our own website now! We hope you have fun on our blog.

"Cookies with Clara" Interviews
During my three month maternity leave, I wanted to get to know the the first graders who were soon to be my students, and introduce myself. Starting in the end of September, I came to visit Roberta and our first grade class once a week to meet with students and read a book to the class before dismissal. It was a wonderful way to stay connected to the class while on maternity leave. Each week I met with two students at a time for "Cookies with Clara," a meeting in the hallway outside of our class. I interviewed students while we shared a snack. The children told me about their families, their thoughts about the school and about their interests so that I could better get to know them. I also gave them an opportunity to ask me questions about myself and my family. Here I will post each of these interviews, paired with the beautiful self-portraits they made in class with Roberta. I enjoyed these interviews and learned a lot about our first graders. I hope you do too!
